WATER GOVERNANCE IN METROPOLITAN CITY :
Evidence from Three Selected Slums

ABSTRACT

In present day’s water governance have become very important issue especially in the urban areas. It was beyond thinking that water rich countries have to face water crisis as the country is situated in one of the largest fresh water store house. Water situation of city especially in the poor slum areas is very miserable and under the threat of serious water related diseases. Based on survey data, this paper concentrates all the issues associated with water governance. The primary importance and the main objective of this paper is to explain the pattern of water governance at the slums in Metropolitan City. It also explores the main reason for water conflicts and identifies the conflicting nature between slum people and the government and non government stakeholders. It also discusses the role of middle man in water distribution process at the slum areas of the Dhaka City which reflects the whole water distribution process in City slums. In the overall this study offers some recommendations to for better water governance in the slum areas of City.
