SYSTEMIC GOVERNANCE AND OCCUPATIONAL SEGREGATION: APPROACH OF THE GENDER WAGE DISCRIMINATION
ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the relationship between gender pay gap and differences in the occupational distribution. To attend this objective we describe the labor market in Cameroun and using the third Cameroon household consumption survey, we undertake a wage decomposition which takes into account occupational differences as suggested by Brown et al. Results shows that the gender pay gap is largely explained by disparities in salaries within-occupations and segregation in occupations do not account for observed wage-gap. Furthermore, differences in wages are a consequence of the market structure as a result of differences in positions occupied by men and women in the job market.
Keywords:Occupational segregation; gender discrimination; labor market; Brown, Moon and Zoloth decomposition.
